Debbie Harry has been there and done that as a pop icon, and now, thanks to D&G at this week’s Milan shows, she has the T-shirt to prove her enduring allure Who says fashion doesn’t dictate to us any more? Without the industry’s totalitarian resolve never to invent anything new, how many of us would willingly return to the Eighties? Unlike the Sixties, which no one who was really there can remember anyway, when the Eighties returns it comes in horribly lucid flashbacks of batwing sweaters and legwarmers.

But this week at the Milan fashion shows, D&G played a blinder, reaching back to a place we can bear to go — Debbie Harry....
