Joe Ryan has photographed everyone from the Grateful Dead to Rusted Root to Blondie....

I met with Joe and John Sibby, the person who helped him get this particular gig, as they were about to set up the "Atomic" exhibit this weekend. I was very impressed both by Joe's love of the work and the skill he has with what he would call "capturing the moment."

He started out in the business photographing the Grateful Dead, which he says changed his life. Blondie seems, at least musically, very different from most of his other subjects, including Bruce Hornsby, the Black Crowes, James Taylor and Blues Traveler. When I asked Joe, "Why Blondie?", at first he said that he has always had an interest in them, listened to them and he just knew when they got back together he had to do it. Then, a sparkle came to his eyes as he described the "euphoria" he experiences while engaged in the work....
