DRURY UNIVERSITY  

Associate Professor of Music (2006-present)
Assistant Professor of Music (2000-2006)

  • Teach the first and second year music theory and ear training core, and participate in structuring the curriculum.
  • Teach upper level courses in counterpoint, analysis and orchestration.
  • Oversee the computer music lab.
  • Teach individual composition lessons.


BOSTON UNIVERSITY  

Assistant Professor of Music (1998-2000)

  • Taught the first and second year music theory core and participated in structuring the curriculum with the undergraduate theory instructors.
  • Taught the graduate theory review course.
  • Coordinated the graduate teaching assistants for the sophomore ear training/sight singing curriculum, overseeing pedagogical issues on a regular basis.
  • Taught individual composition lessons.

Part-time Faculty (1994-98)

  • Taught the first year music theory core and participated in structuring the curriculum with the undergraduate theory instructors. 
  • Coordinated the graduate teaching assistants for the freshman ear training/sight singing curriculum, overseeing pedagogical issues on a regular basis.
  • Taught music theory of the Classical Period to second semester sophomores: covered chromatic harmony, basic principles of orchestration and discussed the development of musical forms of the period, culminating in sonata form.

Theory for Non-majors (1992-93)

Taught a fundamentals of theory course to non-majors. The first semester reached basic four-part writing, whereas the second semester was able to cover extended analysis of simple sonata forms due to a particularly gifted group of students.

Ear training/Sight singing (1989-92)

Taught various levels of the freshman and sophomore curriculum including the honors level, with a focus on solfège, dictation and sight singing.

Taught a variety of theory courses which catered to the needs of the various programs at the institute. The levels ranged from fundamentals to advanced counterpoint.

 


MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY  

Affiliated Artist/Keyboard Theory (Spring 1994-98)

Taught basic through advanced keyboard skills in conjunction with the music theory curriculum. Students ranged in skill from beginners to the most advanced pianists and were taught at their corresponding levels.

 


ATLANTIC UNION COLLEGE  

Part-time Faculty (1994-95)

  • Taught the first semester theory curriculum from fundamentals through simple cadences in four-part writing.

Lectured to the music majors during their weekly Recital Class on my music and my work as a composer. I presented three works of contrasting styles and discussed the issues which arose in composition and performance of the pieces.
