>> While we assess student learning based on the work displayed at the end of their college career, the fact remains that when an intuition is judged as to the quality of the education it offers, all pales in comparison to the accomplishments of it's graduates.

Post graduate success usually manifests itself in the form of works published, awards won or other noteworthy accomplishments. That Drury benefits greatly from our graduate's "fame" is unquestionable.

"Drury's VisCOM program is a solid starting block for those ready for what's next in their creative careers. Structured to set the ground rules for smart design. Unrestrained to let the right-brain take over."

"My work in the VisCom program under the instruction of Dudley Murphy and many other great professors has proved an invaluable bedrock upon which to base my further studies and career choices. The integrated, multi-disciplinary structure of the program taught me that anything can be brought to bear in the pursuit of great communications. VisCom encourages students to draw upon any and all resources in order to create the best possible work, and Dudley's hands-on teaching approach is truly unparalleled in any of my other educational experiences."

  • Art Director, MMG Worldwide

"l will always appreciate the time I had at Drury, with a big part of that being the time I spent in the VisCom program. The course were a good foundation for a career in graphic design and advertising. I am currently an art director for MMG Worldwide in Kansas City, an advertising agency specializing in the travel, hospitality and entertainment industries. I really enjoy art directing photo shoots for our clients in some of the most beautiful places on earth when I'm not sitting at my desk browsing fonts, proofing ads, designing logos and wishing I was outside. Look for my Mystic County mark in Logo Lounge 4: 2,000 International Identities by Leading Designers."

"You've taught me a lot about design, but you've taught even more about being yourself and enjoying life. I just really appreciate you and how you invest in your students, get to know them personally and honesty speak in their best interest. I doubt I'll have a professor like you at Pratt. And while that makes me sad, it makes you even more irreplaceable. Thank you."

  • Designer and Brand Developer, Seattle, WA

"While no higher education can prepare an individual for how the real world of business operates, the skills and knowledge provided by Drury's Visual Communication's program created a foundation from which I could proceed with confidence. After graduation in 1997, the Visual Communication's structure and study of design, psychology, business, and communication allowed me to more easily develop and advance my career.

The knowledge of business and psychology, with design, allowed me to more easily understand and solve client's communication problems, as well as build trusting relationships with them. Visual Communication also laid the path which ultimately lead me to the specialized field of brand development, the defining and managing of a company or product's reputation as it is perceived in the mind of the consumer.

I currently live and work Seattle, Washington providing design, branding and marketing services. I oversee the development of the branding process as well as work with clients to define the verbal and visual element of their brand. While you may never know where your skills and knowledge may take you after graduation, once you get there, it will seem so obvious."

  • Editorial Photographer and Designer, Springfield Business Journal
  • Poster of the Week Award from GigPosters.com
  • Silver Award for Best Newspaper Cover from AABP, 2006

"As the editorial photographer and designer for the Sprngfield Business Journal, it has not been enough to just be a graphic deisnger. In my line of work, it is essential to illustrate the complex concepts of business effectively and efficiently to serve sophisticated readers who live by the adage "time is money." On top of that, the paper must constantly evolve, adapting to changing wants and expectation of readers who now live in a screen society. These are challenges that I must meet week in, week out on a tight deadline. These are challenges for which I'm successfully prepared because of the Visual Communication program at Drury."

  • Art Director, New York Times
  • Portfolio Center, Atlanta
  • 2006 Internship: Pentagram, NYC

"I just accepted an offer to be an Art Director at the New York Times, working with a handful of other creatives doing the design and brand work for many of the Times events, promotional materials, ads, co- branding, material for the new New York Times building designed by Renzo Piano, and lots of other stuff. It's a good opportunity to get in early on what could be a massive change for a historic institution in America.

Thanks so much for being a great mentor through my time at DU and thanks for getting me into Mark Knopfler!"
